Annie la Rue Photography bio picture

hi, i'm annie...

Welcome to my blog.... I am a contemporary lifestyle photographer who splits my time between East Coast, Australia and Singapore.

You can find my website portfolio here ... but this is the place to come if you'd like to see what I've recently been doing, listen to my random ramblings and sometimes see what's going on in my life.

After spending the past four years based in Singapore I have now returned to Canberra, ACT.  I still travel to Singapore every 12 weeks or so as well as servicing Sydney & Rural NSW.  If that doesn't cover you - just ask!  I have been tempted by Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and even Brunei before!

If I had to describe my style I would say; honest and true.  I love to capture the true essence of a moment.  I thrive on capturing honest connections, with the camera but especially with each other, the true honesty that is a family, a friendship,  and love, sometimes warts and all!

...thanks for stopping by... come often and please feel free to leave a comment!

They met in art school, two uber talented artists, who shared a passion for timber.  They worked alongside each other in a class of only nine.  He claims she spent her studio time sipping lattes at the closest cafe which gave him an excuse to take over her studio workspace.  They share a giggle when they talk about it, and a nostalgic glow.  Life and other relationships kept them apart back then, but they remained friends.  Their paths crossed again, she needed someone to work for her on a project and he was the perfect man, it’s been that way ever since.

Angela and Tim bought their beautiful baby, Hoshi, a black and tan Kelpie, with them for our shoot.  After the Ranger hijacked our plans at our original location, we got in the car and headed in search of a new locale and as it always seems to happen; I think our second choice was even better.

I’m thrilled to be shooting their wedding at the end of the month and this was such a perfect day, we have all decided to order the same for two weeks time!

it started with a blind date…well she knew it was a blind date, she’d heard he was smart, athletic, and pretty easy on the eye…he thought he was going out for a night with some mates (ah boys!) …but they both knew pretty instantly…she still takes the credit; she took the plunge, kissed him first…right there at the bar… the rest is history…

Just listen to them tell the story you know man this is real…truly meant to be rock your socks off love.  They make an awesome team.

The first email I received from Emma. I knew I was going to love her and this was going to be lots of fun, we met, she is just so lovely (the kind of lovely that radiates on her face) and lots of fun and my kinda girl…and then she turned up for the shoot, with props!  I LOVE props, especially meaningful ones.

Oh and did I mention I will be shooting their wedding in June with my dear friend Craig second shooting?  I can’t wait…one happy girl!  He tagged along on this shoot and is responsible for the bottom right photo of this set.  I just love the different angle a second shooter can get on things; so honest and true, everything I always wish my photography to be (okay world can I claim that?? let it be said I now claim honest and true!).

warning… photogasim ahead!

It was hot…Nic was really hot so I let him change and we had some fun in the streets of China Town.  I love this area, Ann Siang Hill and we were very lucky, it was Chinese New Year this usually bustling area was very quiet…well that’s what I thought, my wonderful second shooter and right hand man did an awesome job of being traffic warden as well as taking some hilarious photos of me laying face down on the road (who anyone that has a shoot with me will tell you is VERY common), believe it or not Craig I nearly did post one!   Oh, love Nic’s vintage T…

it was Kenya… she had already been in Kenya a few months… a long way from her life in the US… working in the slums with a non profit organisation..he had arrived to study urbanisation, part of his architectural degree…a long way from his Italian home… It was the last place they expected to find love but over African sunsets it happened.  He is a great photographer, they showed me the photos of the area of Kenya they were in, it was straight out of the movies (and actually the movie Constant Gardener was filmed around the village)… Could it get more romantic?

While Claire  & Alessandro currently call Singapore home, they will soon marry in Sri Lanka where they lived in between.

We started at their home in Singapore, a fantastic old walk up (old style apartment building) where they indulged my crazy.  And then we glamed up and hit the streets.  I’ll fess up, they live in the same building that I used to…I loved this shoot, it was like being home.
