annie la rue Photography is a contemporary natural light photographer, Canberra, Singapore
Welcome to my blog.... I am a contemporary lifestyle photographer who splits my time between East Coast, Australia and Singapore.
You can find my website portfolio here ... but this is the place to come if you'd like to see what I've recently been doing, listen to my random ramblings and sometimes see what's going on in my life.
After spending the past four years based in Singapore I have now returned to Canberra, ACT. I still travel to Singapore every 12 weeks or so as well as servicing Sydney & Rural NSW. If that doesn't cover you - just ask! I have been tempted by Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and even Brunei before!
If I had to describe my style I would say; honest and true. I love to capture the true essence of a moment. I thrive on capturing honest connections, with the camera but especially with each other, the true honesty that is a family, a friendship, and love, sometimes warts and all!
...thanks for stopping by... come often and please feel free to leave a comment!

writers block… I have been holding back this post for a few days trying to work out what I wanted to say about this family… but what can you say about spending a rainy morning with these two perfect baby boys and being privileged enough to document this milestone in life for their families?
maybe I should let their photos should do the talking this time…

and this says it all…

The name sounded familiar but when I walked through the door I instantly remembered…I had met Tilley’s mother a long long time ago…a lifetime really, I had worked with her for at my very first interior design firm. It was only a short time, it was work experience whilst I was still at uni, so yes a lifetime ago! one thing I did remember is how lovely she was, so sweet and kind. Well as they say and in this case it’s true…the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…
This is Tilley…you just spend a little bit of time with her and soon see…she has such a lovely spirit. So tender and sweet.. she’s a gentle observer, taking the whole world in with those beautiful big blue eyes, that darling smile and her serene little soul.

I love a birthday bash and loved Hana’s. I last photographed Hana when she was an itty bitty newborn and it was amazing to see how she had grown in a year. You can see a little glimpse of her on the right here…
Hana delicately ate the strawberries from the top of her cake and then required a bit of encouragement of the mummy plough her hands into it kind before she got the idea but I think you can see she got there…
If your wondering where Hana gets her divine looks from her mummy is Kiwi (New Zealander that is…) and dad Japanese… both talented architects but Hana is their best creation so far! I mean seriously she is dee-vine and a sweetie to boot!

Love the icing you can see flying here…

…and the salute to the cake gods! hooray!

This post is a bit of a tease as sadly I no longer offer this type of first birthday bash in the pink palace as I no longer shoot in a studio but if you have a nice plain background and lots of light you could give this a go anywhere like we did for Finn here.
(Yoshi and Yvette it is WAY overdue but hope you finally enjoy, before Hana turns two! xx)
Perceptions are so funny… I am sitting here at my desk in Canberra on the second official day of winter… thick woollen socks on my feet, my favourite 100 year old chunky woollen jumper on, that has had it’s moth holes stitched more time than I can count (makes for a good picture in your head yeah?) and the heater set to the sahara…I still feel cold but looking at Stella I feel like “can someone please get that poor baby a blanket!“. It has always fascinated me; the climatic bubbles we get ourselves in…you know what I mean; when it’s -5 degrees and no matter how much you try, you just cannot remember how 30 degrees felt… It’s a bit like that for me, I was surrounded by the tropical warm cosy blanket of the Singapore humidity just a couple of weeks ago but now just can not remember it ( I have vague recollections of it being guuud!)….I instead look at poor Stella and cry for a blanket. I assure you friends when I made this poor babe lay in the clothes god + huggies gave her it was warm, promise!! air con warm!
but you didn’t come here for that crazy climatic tangent….on with the show! This divine little angel with cupids lips and the mop of kiss curls is Stella and if cupid was a baby girl I’m convinced that this is what she would look like….

what a gorgeous one to start with… I first heard from Susie way before she was due to give birth, I was so excited to hear he had arrived, albeit a couple of weeks early!
Aiden was so lucky to be able to have his mummy and daddy at home for the first few weeks before his dad had to go back to work. It was so lovely to watch these two as a team, so supportive of each other and filled with so much love for their new little man. I struggled to narrow down my favourite photos from this session….there were smiling ones and awake ones but for me a newborn baby snuggled in his mum and dad’s arms is just perfection….and if he is naked; well that’s just even better isn’t it?
For Susie’s friends and family in New York and Haider’s in Lahore, I hope you enjoy the sneak peek of this gorgeous new family of 3.

Haider, I hope your first day back at work wasn’t too painful (who am I kidding I’m sure it was tough..), feel free to check out these photos any time during the day! Thanks Guys for sharing him with me for a while.
It’s something you grow up thinking, wow wouldn’t it be great to have twins??…well I did…as I’ve mentioned before, my childhood best friends were twins, so I definitely thought it was pretty cool. But when you have your first child you realise your insanity! Wow, if I could have a dollar for every time I have thought whilst battling my lone child, oh my, imagine if I’d had twins! Parenthood gives you a HUGE admiration for any parent of ANY combination of multiple births!
But I must say…with flashes of insanity… these two did really made me think again…and wow they are soooo worth it!
Sophie & Rebecca were one day short of their first birthday… they are twins, of course they do everything together but I was amazed… These two share more than their identical blonde locks and baby blues; they amazingly seem to even achieve their milestones together; sitting on the same day and taking their first steps together. But it is amazing the different personalities that shone through. They are just a delight.
I was so thankful Sophie and Rebecca were dressed in two different colour dresses and Caroline, I apologise again for the number of times I had to clarify…now Sophie is in blue…? no pink! But I something makes me think you might get used to that question… Twice blessed, double delight!

I first met darling Georginana at the last Canberra Mathilda’s Market. The second time I saw her walk past me at Handmade Market and recognised her instantly. If she looks a tiny bit familiar, you may well have voted for her, she was one of my finalists in my “i’d walk a thousand miles for one of just one of your smiles” competition. I’m just so happy I got to meet her a third time…
I know I don’t have to say it…it’s plain to see; Georgie is just a darling! It’s not that she is just photogenic, Georgie IS divine, what ever she is doing, quietly watching the trees out the window, sleeping, laughing, even crying…. the absolute apple of her father’s eye and why wouldn’t she be? I mean those lashes… those eyes… that smile…!

I have been really looking forward to this shoot… Max’s dad Peter, is one of my brother’s besties. They have been friends for as long as I can remember, they were in the year ahead of me at school, goodness we even all worked at the same high school job together (pizza hut! just in case you were curious)… this basically means I have known Pete….well let’s just say for-ever!! I was just so excited when I got the email from Pete saying they were expecting and would I be able to capture their memories.
This was actually meant to be a “bump to babe” session; we had the bump session locked in…the day before I get a call from Pete to confirm the appointment, maybe some last minute questions, well so I thought…ahh…Annie just wanted to let you know we have to cancel the session tomorrow…ah oh, cold feet??…umm no, we are actually at the hospital!
Max’s mum and dad are doing an amazing job already, you only have to look at the photos to see that he is already just so happy, sleepy and content. I can’t wait to watch how he grows.
He snuck into the world a wee bit early but here he is just 5 days old…welcome to the world little Max!

Congratulations Leeanne and Pete, he is just dee-vine! I can’t wait to watch him grow as we just grow old-er! x
I love it when I arrive at a client’s house and the baby is still asleep, parents rush to wake the baby up but I quickly stop them…I love getting some lovely sleeping shots. Who doesn’t love a peaceful sleeping baby…? Her momma told me her favourite time of the day with Inge was straight after a nap, when she wasn’t quite awake and I could see why… she was just so sweet.
When she is awake Inge is all go. I’ve seen some early walkers but this one is amazing! At 7 month old all she wants to do is walk!…and just check out those cutie pie legs… She is really here to take on the world and look out world she has already started!
Isn’t this a fabulous place to sleep…? This sling is quite traditional in Singapore and Inge has slept in this since she was a newborn. She looked SO comfortable, I honestly wanted one for myself!

And who wouldn’t be utterly charmed when she wakes up with a smile like this?

but when Inge is awake she walks and walks and walks….
